The history of Steam – the dominant platform of PC Game (Part 4)

In 2010 and 2012 Steam landed on the MAC, a rare occurrence because Linux and Mac users complained they were abandoned by software/game developers. Also in 2012, Steam announced Steam workshop, end users can mod-edit the game they like as long as the agreement with the game publisher then show it to the community on this Steam workshop segment.

This step is like hitting big players like Nexus (the playground of the mod community), but due to a number of terms that Steam cannot browse for Mod 18+, Nexus can still live after. This event (unlike WON is dead)

Nexus still stands after Steam announced Steam Workshop

2012 was also the year Steam announced its Steam Mobile phone app as a remedy against cyberattacks on user accounts, at which point a Steam account could be traded on the Market system (Steam market).

Steam mobile is a form of tracking and verification of each transaction as well as providing a security code for Steam accounts. Users are now more secure with Steam mobile, but that’s still when you have a phone for yourself.

Constantly growing

Became the last boss of the online software/game business, so much so that the giants later tried to find a “steam” version like the way EA created Origin still had to accept defeat (Origin was announced in 2011 and EA can only sell their own games). Steam continues to find ways to support its users and grow its empire.

Steam in-home Streaming helps any user to be a streamer at home, then the form of sharing accounts for family members also helps users to share the game experience reasonably.

However, when Steam switched to attack hardware segments such as VR glasses, steam controllers or Steam machines in 2015, it seemed that users paid little attention (currently Steam’s VR price is still considered too high similar to The Steam controller cannot replace the Xbox controller that is so familiar to users).
